Math for Daily Living

Many people with aphasia experience a problem with the activities of daily living involving numbers and basic number comprehension. This problem can cause issues with understanding prices and quantities in a grocery store, conveying dates, dialing a phone number, and calculating tips. And accuracy is essential when working with numbers.

The Aphasia Community Center has started a new Math for Daily Living class. This class is about the numbers and calculations people use in everyday life. Participants will read, write, speak, and hear about numbers. Some of the topics we are starting with are:

  • Matching Symbols and Words
  • Answering Questions about Quantities
  • Adding Amounts of Money
  • Identifying Equivalent Values
  • Completing Numbers in a Sequence
  • Solving Math Story Problems
  • Reading a Clock
  • Calculating Tips

This in-person class is offered twice each month. Feel free to check out our calendar for more information.
